ASTM International’s snow and water sports committee (F27) has approved a new standard that outlines test methods manufacturers, suppliers, and testing laboratories in the wakeboard industry can use to test wakeboard breaking strength. The new standard will soon be published as F3707.

The same testing methods can be applied by suppliers and testing laboratories who work with multiple manufacturers to assess the breaking strength for all wakeboards. Additionally, test setup and data recording will be streamlined with the new standard.

Bethany Suderman, an ASTM member, explained, “Currently each manufacturer uses their own test setup and specifications for testing the wakeboard breaking strength. This test method specifies how to setup the wakeboard prior to testing and how and where to apply the force to break the wakeboards.”

F3707 will benefit consumers due to the universalization of testing methods and by knowing that their wakeboards are being tested by the same standard, regardless of the manufacturer.
