Water Retention of Stored Insulation
ASTM International’s thermal insulation committee (C16) is developing a proposed standard (WK67790) that will help determine the amount of water retained by flat specimens of rigid thermal insulation after immersion and drying.
“The proposed test method will allow manufacturers and insulation users to learn more about the wetting and drying behavior of rigid insulations,” says ASTM member Todd Bergstrom, chief operating officer, AFM Corporation.
The proposed standard will evaluate water retention of a rigid insulation material after immersion and exposure to drying under a standardized test of laboratory conditions. Current standards cover water retained, but do not include information available after materials are stored in air.
