Women’s Lacrosse Stick Performance

ASTM International’s sports equipment, playing surfaces, and facilities committee (F08) is developing a proposed test method (WK86477) for the pocket performance of women’s lacrosse sticks.

“This standard would provide a means to test the speed of lacrosse shots with a proposed stick to determine its safety for play,” says ASTM member Caitlin Kelley. “The goal in producing this standard is to replace current technical material and aesthetic requirements for stick pockets with a singular performance standard.”

The standard specifically revolves around the dimensions of the molded head in conjunction with the pocket. According to Kelley, senior director of sports administration at USA Lacrosse, the standard will be used to “govern innovation for lacrosse sticks and provide parameters for the safe development of rules and play.”

Those interested in helping to write the standard are encouraged to contribute to the development of WK86477. Kelley notes that the task group is specifically interested in testing mechanisms for throwing measurements.
